If you have a 12 oz package of boxed stuffing, this recipe only uses half of the package. This recipe is for 6 qt. air fryers or larger that can fit a 7” accessory bucket or similar size baking dish. That includes a countertop oven style air fryers. If you are using croutons or homemade toasted bread cubes, use 2 cups equal about 6 oz of boxed stuffing mix.
Heat medium skillet on medium high-heat. Melt butter and add onions and celery. Cook until onions are soft.
Add sausage and break it up into small pieces (a meat chopper makes quick work of this). Stirring occasionally, cook until browned. Add garlic powder, optional herbs, black pepper, salt, and broth (and add any other optional stuffing extras) and then stir. Heat to a low boil.
Fill prepared 7” accessory bucket or baking dish with stuffing and spread into an even layer. Cover with foil.
For Oven Style Air Fryers: Place the stuffing dish on lowest rack of the air fryer. For Bucket Style Air Fryers: place the stuffing dish in the air fryer.
Air Fry at 350°F/175°C for 10 minutes, covered with foil. Then remove foil and brush with melted butter. Leave the stuffing uncovered in the air fryer.
Continue to Air Fry for another 2-5 minutes or until the top is crisp to your liking. Remove from air fryer and serve warm.
