What is the Mealthy CrispLid?
Mealthy is a company that makes modern kitchen products to simply home cooking. Some of their products include electric pressure cookers, cool hand blenders and the game changing CrispLid for your pressure cooker. The CrispLid basically does what it’s named: it’s a lid that crisps your food. It’s a heating element that circulates hot air and converts a 6-8 qt electric pressure cooker into an air fryer and dehydrator. Yup, it’s pretty cool to not have to buy a separate air fryer if you already have a stainless steel pot for your pressure cooker or Instant Pot. The CrispLid is an add-on accessory that can broil, crisp, air fry, and dehydrate directly in the stainless steel pot of your electric pressure cooker.
How to Use the Mealthy CrispLid? How Does the CrispLid work?
It’s super simple. The CrispLid fits snugly on top of any 6 or 8 quart electric pressure cookers and converts it into an air fryer. The Instant Pot is the most popular pressure cooker, so if you already have one, consider yourself half way there to air frying. The CrispLid is the accessory that can air fry and crisp your food after you’ve pressure cooked it. It’s really handy for pressure cooked foods that can use a little more crispy texture that pressure cookers don’t make. Instead of transferring the pressure cooked food to crisp in the regular oven, you can use the CrispLid easily and efficiently! Just place the CrispLid on top of your pressure cooker, set your time and temp and crisp your food. Or you can use the CrispLid and your pressure cooker just for air frying. It comes with a wire tray for you to air fry food.
What Can You Cook with the Mealthy CrispLid?
The possibilities are endless for this mealthy crisplid review. We tested the CrispLid to crisp a pressure cooked whole chicken and to solely air fry chicken wings. Here’s our results:
Crispy Whole “Roast” Chicken: First, we cooked a whole chicken in the pressure cooker. The chicken didn’t have crispy skin. Then we removed the pressure cooker lid and placed the CrispLid on top. The CrispLid air frying feature crisped the skin nicely. We could have crisped the skin more but were hungry and couldn’t wait. The chicken was delicious! No need to transfer the chicken to the regular oven broiler. One less step and hassle.
CrispLid Chicken Wings: We used the Instant pot base and used the Air fryer function of the CrispLid to make crispy chicken wings. This worked solely as an air fryer and it cooked the chicken to a perfect crisp, no extra oil needed.
CrispLid Pro’s
- It’s a space saver for sure. Small, compact and doesn’t take up too much space.
- Time saver: air fries food crispy and quickly without the hassle of oven cooking.
- Money saver. You can save a little money by not having to buy a dedicated air fryer. The crisp lid gives you the air frying capabilities on your existing pressure cooker.
- Is a universal lid and works on any 6-8 qt brand pressure cooker.
- Cooks food crispy, just like a dedicated air fryer. We know, cause we have 13 air fryers and the CrispLid competes well with other air fryer models.
- The latest model air fries up to 500°F/260°C , which is much higher than most air fryers. This higher temperature is perfect for broiling.
CrispLid Con’s
- It can only be used with stainless steel pots, not ceramic interior pots. So if you have a ceramic interior pot, you’ll have to invest in a stainless steel interior pot for your pressure cooker.
- When using their trivet, it places the food very close to the heating element. This crisps the food quicker and hotter, so you have to be thoughtful about what you want to air fry. Bigger or thick foods will have issues, especially if you want it to cook all the way through. The circulating air isn’t as strong as mid-sized air fryers, so food will take a little longer to cook. And you might have to cook at slightly lower temperatures, cook quicker or turn more often when compared to other same size air fryers.
- Can’t cook more than 2 servings of chicken, fish or steak (about 6-8 oz. each). So it’s great for about 2 people, or for side dishes. But if you’re looking to air fry a main dish for 3 or more people, it’s better to buy a dedicated 5 qt air fryer or larger.
- When moving the lid on and off, both the lid and edge of the pot get super hot. Just make sure to use the silicone trivet that comes with the CrispLid so that you don’t burn yourself or your countertops.
Overall Review: Is the Mealthy CrispLid worth the money and purchase?
This is a fantastic and innovative add-on air fryer feature to your pressure cooker. Yes, it’s definitely worth it for the convenience of saving space and money, especially for smaller servings. If you air fry occasionally for 2 people or side dishes, it’s perfect. But if you want to air fry lots of food at once, buy a larger air fryer. Our best air fryer suggestions are here. The CrispLid doesn’t take-up valuable kitchen space and you can use your existing pressure cooker. Best of all, if you’re an avid pressure cooker user you can cook larger portions of food and then crisp it easily! The CrispLid is the perfect broiler accessory. No more transferring the soft pressure cooked food to the oven broiler to get a crispy texture! Skipping that regular oven broiler step is worth the convenience.
