Air Fried Salmon Teriyaki Recipe

If you’re a fan of homemade teriyaki salmon, then you must try air frying the filet. The hot circulating air cooks each fish filet perfectly on the outside and inside. If you like your fish a little more firm, then cook it a little longer. If you like to have the center more raw, then just take it out sooner.

Timing for Air Frying Depends on Size of Fillet

If you’re wondering how long it takes to air fry salmon, it all depends on how large or thick the fillet is. Also, how well done you like your salmon. Generally, when the thickest part of the salmon flakes easily with a fork, then it’s finished and ready to eat. We suggest starting at 7 minutes of air frying, then check the salmon so see how close it is to being done. Then continue to air fry for another 1-3 minutes or until cooked to your liking. This is all timing for a salmon filet ranging 6-8 ounces in size. Check out all our air fryer salmon recipes here.

Do you need to marinate the salmon in teriyaki before air frying?

This is a cooking tip that everyone suggests and we’ve tried it. The results? It really doesn’t matter. We find that even marinating the salmon for about 20 minutes in the teriyaki sauce doesn’t add much flavor. But what it does is make the salmon a little mushier and saltier. Also, it’s a waste of sauce cause the leftover teriyaki sauce where the salmon was soaking should be discarded.

  • What we suggest is just lightly coat the salmon fillets with your teriyaki sauce. This will give us flavor and char to the fish when it’s cooked.
  • Then when the fish is cooked to your liking, add as much or as little teriyaki sauce on to finish the salmon. It’s customizable for the flavors and you don’t have to waste time marinating when you don’t have to. Quicker is better!

Use re-usable silicone liners or parchment with holes in them to provide air flow throughout the fish. These are great tools to have when you’re air frying fish or anything that easily sticks to your air fryer basket or air fryer metal trays.

Evo Oil Sprayer
Evo Oil Sprayer

We LOVE Evo Oil Sprayers. Not the prettiest, but they’re functional and spritz oil great! They don’t clog up like many others we’ve bought. There’s different styles, but all seem to have the same great spray head. Works great for grilling!

8.5" Square Blue Silicone Mat
Perforated Silicone Mat

There are Square Mats & Round Mats. These perforated non-stick silicone mats are used to cook food in your air fryer or steamer to minimize sticking. Holes allow hot circulating air to cook the food & keeps the food from sticking.

Perforated Parchment Paper

Parchment sheets are great for your air fryer or bamboo steamer (food tends to stick most on wire basket or tray). Choose from different sizes, shapes, white and brown (unbleached). Holes allow air to cook food evenly.
