How to Air Fry Easy Cake Kit {Tips}
The process of making this is so simple, there’s really no way to screw this up. The only variable is that each air fryer model cooks a little differently. So after you make your first cake you’ll know what timing works best for your air fryer model.
- Do not use an air fryer model smaller than 3 qt. The vessels probably won’t fit in a small air fryer and it might burn the top of the cake. The heating element will be too close to the cake.
- You must start in a cold air fryer. If you cooked something in your air fryer previously and it’s still warm, allow it to cool completely. Starting in a pre-heated or warm air fryer will cook the cake too quick on top and the center can still be raw.
- After the initial base cooking time, stick a toothpick in the cake. If it’s “almost” cooked, then turn off air fryer and leave the cake to rest inside the air fryer for 5-10 minutes to gently finish cooking in the residual heat.
- If the batter is still wet, add an additional 2-5 minutes of cooking time and then turn off air fryer and leave the cake to rest inside the air fryer for 5-10 minutes to gently finish cooking in the residual heat.

Equipment
Instructions
- Start in cold air fryer. Do not pre-heat. If you cooked something in your air fryer previously and it's still warm, allow it to cool completely. Starting in a pre-heated or warm air fryer will cook the cake too quick on top and the center can still be raw.
- Combine cake mix according to package instruction. Pour the batter in to the paper pan that was included in the box kit.
- Place cake in air fryer basket or rack.
- Air fry at 320°F/160°C for 20 minutes. After the initial base cooking time, stick a toothpick in the cake. If it's "almost" cooked, turn off air fryer and leave the cake to rest inside the air fryer for 5-10 minutes to gently finish cooking in the residual heat. If the batter is still wet, Air Fry for 2-5 minutes more or until nearly cooked. Then turn off air fryer and leave the cake to rest inside the air fryer for 5-10 minutes to gently finish cooking in the residual heat.
- Allow to cool. Squeeze the frosting provided over the cake and spread evenly. Enjoy!
If your air fryer is preheated or if you are cooking multiple batches, you may need to reduce timing by a few minutes (unless preheating is called for in the recipe).

Is the Duncan Hines cake kit
only available in the U.S.?
Hi Sally, yes it looks like it’s only available in the US. If any readers know of international availability, hopefully they’ll let us know. Thank you!
That’s brilliant. I’ve looked at a number of air fryer cake recipes and it seemed like they made huge cakes and I worried about them not baking all the way thru. Also I’d rather just have a small cake since I cook for just my husband and myself. I do like to bake from scratch but this may also prepackaged item May help me understand how to scale down a recipe and bake a cake in the air fryer. Fun!
I really loved cooking the cake kit in the air fryer. It’s so simple.
